Back in Kona, Thirty Years Later…

Is this really happening? Am I really back two miles down the street from the start/finish line of the famous Ironman Triathlon after all these years?

The sleepy fishing village where the closest we came to news was a debate on extending the airport runway and the drama of a CostCo battling a “Big” K-Mart before Wal*Mart elbowed their way in…and let’s not forget…POGs!

This condo is not a money making venture….far from it! Making it available now for others to enjoy and the somewhat of a chance it can pay its own bills and taxes while it sits waiting for a time that it can be enjoyed more fully…that’s the dream. The adventure in between? Well, you’ll be a part of it now. Just know that, much like Kona Makai itself, this family story goes back more than forty years to a time when arcades ruled before Nintendo and skinning your knees on lava rocks meant a day well played.

So much around here has changed and yet so much has stayed the same. Getting splashed by the high surf over the break wall by the pier seems no further distant a memory than yesterday but the idea of a Target, Lowe’s, or a Safeway are almost incomprehensible.
